Sail Melbourne International is calling for volunteers for this year’s event, hosted at Royal Brighton Yacht Club. You can click here to register . Sail Melbourne will be conducted from Wednesday 29 November – Sunday 3 December 2017, offering sailing to the Olympic and Invited Classes and will offer a fantastic volunteering experience.
Whether it be on-water, off-water, as a race official, driver or administrator, there will be a rewarding and enjoyable role and your fellow organisers look forward to working with you.
One such volunteer reaching her 25 year anniversary as a volunteer at the event is Glenys Wilson. Along with her husband Kevin, who is one of Australia’s leading race officers, Glenys has been involved since 1992 and continues to love the experience.
She says that volunteering at Sail Melbourne is a lot of fun, is a great chance to make and catch up with friends and has benefits too. Glenys’s volunteer network now extends to people from all over Australian and overseas and she looks forward to catching up with many of them each year at Sail Melbourne.
Glenys encourages potential first-timers to think about what they love doing in sailing and at a regatta and outline this to the organisers at volunteer registration. And most of all to register now and get involved.
As well as quality on-water and off-water opportunities Sail Melbourne will once again offer race management forums, a measurement course, and International Race Officer seminar, mentoring activities with experienced course race officers, as well as a great team culture and environment. Skills learnt and/or enhanced can then be taken back and used at club level or at other state, national and international events
Australian Sailing during the year offers many Race Official courses at member clubs. Sail Melbourne and all other volunteers are encouraged to keep their eyes out for these courses and to visit the Australian Sailing website or contact the AS office in their region.
